Grow Your Soil

Last year our focus was on Social Emotional Learning; this year we will take a deep dive into soil. Each issue of our newsletter for the 2022-23 school year will include an article about some aspect of soil and supporting resources for you to explore.

Climate change may seem like a daunting concept. Understanding carbon movement is one way to gain a basic understanding of one factor and easily identify actionable steps to help the situation.

The amount of carbon on earth and in the atmosphere is finite. The problem arises in where that carbon exists. There are several gardening practices that can help pull carbon from the air and return it to the soil. For example, the process of photosynthesis pulls carbon from the atmosphere while supporting plant life. Take a look at The Soil Story, an awesome, easy to understand video with great graphics, to find out how building healthy soil can help restore the carbon balance.
