Starting Seeds for a Tower Garden
Supplies
- Rock wool starter plugs
- Plastic container
- Seeds
- Plant labels
- Vermiculite
- Grow light or space on a sunny window sill
- Sharpened pencil
- Place rock wool in a plastic planting container.
- Water rock wool. There should be about ¼ inch of water in the bottom of the container.
- Use the tip of a pencil to open the holes in the top of the rock wool.
- Put 2-3 seeds in each hole.
- Label each seed or group of the same seeds with the name of the plant and the date.
- Use the eraser of the pencil to push the seeds into the hole. They do not need to be very deep.
- Cover each hole with a small layer of vermiculite.
- Gently water the seeds.
- Place in a warm, sunny location or under a grow light.
- Check daily and maintain ¼-inch of water in the container to ensure seeds do not dry out.
- Seedlings are ready to transfer when they have their first set of true leaves.
