Garden Vocabulary

  • Direct seeding: planting seed directly into the garden where it will be grown to maturity 
  • Transplant/starts: baby plants that have been planted from seeds and grown in a greenhouse or indoors under lights for approximately 4-6 weeks and are ready to be replanted in the garden.
  • Germination time: the time it takes for a seed to sprout after it has been planted and watered.
  • Succession planting: planting method that extends your harvest by staggering planting times.
  • Square foot gardening: the practice of dividing the growing area into 1 square foot sections in order to maximize growing space.
